23 Safety Information for Lawn Scarifiers

23.1 Introduction

This chapter describes the general safety instructions
preformulated in the standard EN 50636-2-92, Annex BB, for
electrically operated lawn scarifiers.
WARNING
Read all the safety instructions, instructions, illustrations
and technical data provided with the lawn scarifier. Failure
to comply with the following instructions may cause
electrical shock, fire and/or serious injury. Keep all safety
instructions and instructions for the future.

23.2 Training

a) Read the instructions carefully, ensure that you are
familiar with the controls and the correct use of the
machine.
b) Never allow people who are not familiar with these
instructions or children to use the machine.Local
regulations may impose age restrictions for users.
c) Note that the user is responsible for accidents or hazards
involving third parties or their property.

23.3 Preparation

a) Always wear hearing protection and safety glasses when
operating the machine.
b) Always check the electric and extension cables for signs
of damage or aging before use. If the cable becomes
damaged during use, it must be immediately disconnected
from the mains. DO NOT TOUCH THE CABLE BEFORE
IT HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAINS. Do
not use the machine if the cable is damaged or worn.
c) Always wear sturdy shoes and long trousers when
operating the machine. Never operate the machine
barefoot or in lightweight sandals. Avoid wearing loose
clothing, clothing with hanging cords or ties.
d) Carefully inspect the area on which the machine is to be
used and remove any objects that could be taken in and
thrown up by the machine.
e) Use the machine only in the recommended position and
only on a firm, level surface.
f) Do not operate the machine on paved or gravelled
surfaces where ejected material can cause injuries.
g) Before switching the machine on, always check whether
all bolts, nuts, pins and other fastenings are secure, and
that the safety devices and protective grilles are in place.
Worn or damaged stickers must be replaced.
h) Never operate the machine in the vicinity of other people,
particularly children, or animals.

23.4 Operation

a) Only work during the day or with good artificial light.
b) Avoid using the machine when the grass is wet.
c) Always ensure good stability, especially on slopes.
d) Walk, do not run.
e) Operate the machine across and never up or down the
slope.
f) Be particularly careful when changing direction on a slope.
g) Do not scarify or aerate on excessively steep slopes.
