    Overview Optimized for enterprise-level high capacity storage applications, Supermicro's SC846X chassis features 24 hot-swap 3.5" SAS/SATA hard drive trays and up to six internal hard drive bays in a 4U space. The chassis design offers maximum HDD per space ratio in a 4U form factor, high power efficiency, optimized HDD signal trace routing and improved HDD tray design to dampen HDD vibrations and maximize performance.

    SC846X Chassis Manual Components Drives The chassis supports twenty-four hot-swap 3.5" SAS or SATA hard disk drives in the front. The drives are supported by a backplane. In addition, you have the option to add up to six drives at the rear of the chassis.

    For faster service, RMA authorizations may be requested online (http://www. supermicro.com/support/rma/). Whenever possible, repack the chassis in the original Supermicro carton, using the original packaging material. If these are no longer available, be sure to pack the chassis securely, using packaging material to surround the chassis so that it does not shift within the carton and become damaged during shipping.

The only tool required is a Phillips screwdriver. Review the warnings and precautions listed in the manual before setting up or servicing this chassis.

    The drives are mounted in drive carriers to simplify their installation and removal from the chassis. These carriers also help to promote proper airflow for the drive bays. If you are installing an external fan for the first time, follow the instructions below.

    The chassis features redundant power supplies. They are hot-swappable, meaning they can be changed without powering down the system. New units can be ordered directly from Supermicro or authorized distributors. These power supplies are auto-switching capable. This feature enables them to automatically sense the input voltage and operate at a 100-120v or 180-240v.
