R
1 OVERVIEW
The Elcometer 119 Pipe Pit Gauge is a pocket sized gauge designed to
identify the condition of a pipe.
The gauge is placed horizontally on the surface of the pipe and the stylus
is positioned into the base of the corrosion pit.
The gauge shows the pit depth compared to the nominal pipe wall
thickness.
2 TAKING A READING
1
Place the long edge of the Elcometer 119 Pipe Pit Gauge against the test surface.
2
Push the indicator arm until the stylus touches the bottom of the pit or crater.
3
Read the pit depth off the scale in line with the top edge of the indicator arm.
The instrument can be used to compare the pit depth with the pipe thickness. A scale showing pipe
diameters with corresponding wall thickness is marked on the gauge, adjacent to the pit depth scale.
When the indicator arm is in line with the pipe diameter this shows that the pit is approximately the same
depth as the wall thickness.
