i) Contact-Free AC Voltage Recognition (NCV)

This function is not admissible to determine voltage freeness in electrical
systems. For this, a 2-pole measurement must be performed at all times. The
NCV function is only active with the meter on.
The NCV function ("non-contact-voltage detection") leads to
contact-free detection of the presence of an alternating
voltage in electrical conductors. The NCV sensor (1) is
attached at the front of the meter.
A possible alternating voltage is displayed visually via a light
indicator (3).
- Switch on the DMM. The NCV function is active inde-
pendently of the measuring function set at the dial switch.
- Move the current probe with the front (1) to a known AC
voltage source. Always perform this test to avoid wrong
detection. The display (3) starts to light up if there is an
alternating voltage applied.
- Perform the test at the intended line, etc.
- Remove the current probe from the object to be measured
after completion of the measurement and switch off the
device.
The highly sensitive NCV sensor may also cause a
voltage recognition at static charge. This is normal and
not a malfunction.
The sensitivity is influenced by many unknown factors such as lines placed lower, thick
insulations, etc. Therefore, a set detection depth cannot be specified.
