Preparing to Juice
Thorough preparation matters in juicing. Make sure to use the freshest fruits
and vegetables you can find and carefully wash all produce. Cutting fruits
and vegetables reduces their nutrients. Always chop up your ingredients right
before juicing to limit nutrient loss. Chop vegetables in particular into rough
chunks (small enough to fit into the feeder tube).
Most juicers, your Waring Pro Health™ Juicer included, do not require you to
peel or seed all ingredients before juicing. However, some fruits and vegetables
you'll want to peel or deseed anyway. Peel fruits with toxicities in the skins,
including oranges, grapefruits, and papaya. You can juice the stems and leaves
on most fruits and vegetables. Lastly, always roll greens, like kale or spinach,
into tight balls before pushing them into the juicer.
Juicing Methods
Remember to push hard fruits and vegetables into the feeder tube using pul-
sating, uneven motions. Push softer vegetables in slow, continuous motions.
After juicing everything, check the pulp. If pulp appears damp, run it through
the juicer.
Juicing Greens
Often used in juice fasts, juiced greens offer numerous health and fitness ben-
efits. However, properly juicing greens requires some special prep work and
instructions. Over time, though, you'll learn the process secondhand.
1. Before adding your leafy greens to the juicer start with a base vegetable
with a high water content. Examples include romaine lettuce, cucumbers,
or celery. These types of bases will also make your leafy greens taste better.
2. Next, add your leafy greens. Try kale, chard, spinach, or any others. Make
sure to roll them into tight balls before juicing them.
3. Then add some herbs. Cilantro and parsley work great for detoxing. Roll
these into tight balls first too.
4. Add some zest to your juice with ginger, lemon, or lime. Clean, cut up,
and add ginger straight into the juicer. For lemon or lime, squeeze them
into the juice by hand and whisk the ingredients.
5. Lastly, add a pear or apple to sweeten your juice if you like. Try it without
the fruit first and then decide.
