FINAL C H E C K S BEFORE OPERATION
After installation is complete, perform the following
checks. Then read the OPERATION and PERIODIC
MAINTENANCE sections completely before starting
your generator set.
Battery
Set the battery in the battery tray on the compartment
base
(see SPECIFICATIONS section for recom-
mended battery). See Figure 11. Hook the two battery
hold-down studs into the battery tray. Install the top
battery hold-down frame onto the top edges of the
battery, with the hold-down studs up through the
holes of the top frame. Secure the battery frame with
thetwo 5/16-inch flat washers, lockwashers and nuts.
Battery Connections
Before making the battery connections, add the elec-
trolyte and charge the battery following the manufac-
turer's instructions. Make sure you have the battery
terminal contact areas clean. Connect the battery
cables as shown in Figure 11 positive (+) battery
cable to the positive battery terminal, and the nega-
tive (-) battery cable to the negative battery terminal.
Coat the terminal connections with mineral grease or
petroleum.
If the battery cables are accidentally reversed, the engine will start
and run, but battery will discharge.
1. Check oil level of engine and air cleaner. Oil for
engine should show full on oil level indicator.
2. Check fuel supply (gasoline fuel).
3. Check load, and remote wiring connections. See
Figures 2 and 8.
4. Check battery connections for correct polarity
(negative ground only) and check battery electro-
lyte level.
5. Refer to the OPERA TION section. Test the gen-
erating set for starting, running and stopping.
6. Close the compartment.
7. With a good padlock (one which will resist corro-
sion and freezing), lock the housing latch hinge
to the hasp on the rear wall of the compartment.
W A R N I N G
The generator set owner should become thor-
oughly familiar with the start-stop controls,
manual or automatic transfer switch operation and routine period-
ic maintenance items to ensure the set's operation in the event of a
power outage. Read your owner's manual and take note of the
recommendations regarding the use of light-weight oil for cold
weather operation, importance of periodically running (exercis-
ing) the unit to keep the battery charged and prevent stale fuel
(varnish build-up) in carburetor. Also keep all leaves, grass and
weeds or shrubs from obstructing any air inlets and outlets and
keep the unit fueled and ready for immediate operation at all times.
