A typical installation scenario follows these steps:
1. You determine which configuration to order and then order the system.
2. IBM sends you links to the planning information.
3. IBM builds and ships your system.
4. A third party takes over shipment.
5. The shipping company sends the system to your installation site and maintains contact with you.
6. You accept the shipment.
7. You follow the unpacking instructions that came with the system.
8. You route and connect power cables to a power source, but do not power on the system.
9. You wait until all LEDs on the front of the rack are green and are blinking slowly.
10. You connect a device that has browser access and an Ethernet port to I/O module slot 1, port 6 on
the switch chassis to determine whether all hardware components are present and functioning.
11. You contact an IBM Services Team representative to request that they go ahead with the next step.
12. You meet with an IBM Services Team representative to complete the system configuration.
13. An IBM Services Team representative cables a laptop to the management network to access the
Management Server Setup wizard.
14. You work with an IBM Services Team representative to complete the following tasks:
v Accept software license agreements
v Set system-level user IDs and passwords
15. An IBM Services Team representative helps you learn more about configuring and using your
system.

Performing tasks associated with the 7953-94X rack

You must remove the 7953-94X rack outriggers, position the rack, install the system covers, and install the
rack stabilizer bracket before you install the system.
Procedure
1. Remove both outriggers (also known as rack side stabilizing brackets) from the sides of the rack by
removing the four bolts on each side with the 6 mm hex wrench that is provided. If you plan to move
the rack cabinet to another location, save the outriggers for use in the future.
