Installation Prerequisites
Caution
installing 4 CSC-2Rs and 2 CSC-C2CTRs. (Two ciscoBus slots are used as Multibus slots.) The
number of ciscoBus interfaces is limited by space available for applique card cages and power
budget limits. Because the slower Multibus interfaces always have higher priority than ciscoBus
interface, traffic on the Multibus may degrade performance of ciscoBus interfaces that are not
autonomously switched; therefore, we do not recommend this configuration for
performance-sensitive applications.

Ring Speed

Before installing the CSC-C2CTR, determine the ring speed (4 or 16 Mbps) of each ring to be
connected. There is no factory default for the interface speed; you must use the ring-speed
command to set the speed of each interface when you bring the interface up and insert it into a ring.
The CSC-C2CTR interfaces are independent, and each can be configured for either 4 Mbps or
16 Mbps.
Caution
beacon, which effectively takes the ring down and makes it inoperable.

One APP-LTR2 for each two CSC-C2CTR ports (two appliques if you will use all four ports, one
applique if you will use only two ports).
Applique card cage (MAS-CCG)—one card cage is required for every two appliques. If a card
cage is already installed in your chassis, and it has space available, you need not install another
one.
Ground straps—the type and number depends on the appliques in the card cage.
2 or 4 ribbon cables for the internal connections between the applique and CSC-C2CTR ports.
Two interface port labels for each applique (TR 0, TR 1, and so forth)—These may already be
attached to the applique when you receive it.
One disposable grounding wrist strap. A disposable wrist strap is included with all new
components and upgrade kits; use it to prevent damage to equipment from electrostatic
discharge.
If you are upgrading the microcode only, and not installing a new card or applique, you should
receive one replacement EPROM component and a copy of the Microcode Release Note
document.
