Checking the Engine Oil Level

Service Interval: Before each use or daily
Important: To read the dipstick in this machine
correctly, do not screw it in to the oil fill tube.
Insert the dipstick until the threads on the cap just
touch the threads in the oil fill tube.
1. Move the machine to a level surface.
2. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, and insert it
into the oil filler tube just until it stops but do not
screw it in (Figure 15).
3. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level.
Figure 16 shows how to read the dipstick.
1. Oil level is too low
2. Oil level is too high
• If the dipstick shows that the oil is too low,
add oil to the engine; refer to Setup, step
2 Filling the Engine with Oil (page 9).
• If the dipstick shows that the oil is
too high, drain out a little oil; refer to
Changing the Engine Oil (page 20).
• If the top of the oil falls within the marked
section on the dipstick, the oil level is good.
4. Install the dipstick and hand tighten it securely.
