SYSTEM COMPONENTS

2.4
2.4.1 BKSU/ SBKSU (Basic Key Service Unit/Small Basic Key Service Unit)
The BKSU and SBKSU are metal frame cabinets designed for wall mounting. The BKSU/SBKSU
contain a back plane with 10/7 card edge connectors and space is provided for a internal Ring Generator
Unit. The backplane also have two connectors. One is for Ring Generator Unit and the other is for PFTU.
The left most slot houses the Power Supply Unit and the right most slot is assigned for Main Processor
Board. The remaining card slots, numbered slot 1-8 for BKSU, slot 1-4 and 8 for SBKSU, house the
various system plug-in boards.
The MISB is operated on only slot #8. Digital Trunk Board (E1IB, PRIB, BRIB), WTIB and DVIB can be
installed only on slots #1 through #7. The other cards can be installed on any slots. Cable ties are located
on the front edge of the lower card rail to allow connecting cables for the station boards, CO interface
boards, and MISB to be neatly installed. The connecting cables for the stations and CO Lines exit through
the outlet in the bottom of BKSU/SBKSU and can be connected to the MDF or to a user installed
termination point.
!
Note: GDK-100 SBKSU is not supplied any more.

2.4.2 EKSU (Expansion Key Service Unit)

The Expansion KSU is a metal housing designed for wall mount installation. The EKSU contains a back
plane with 4 card edge connectors. The card slots numbered slots 9 through 12, house the various
system plug-in boards except Digital Trunk Boards, WTIB, DVIB and MISB. On the front edge of the lower
card rail are cable ties for the station and CO interface cables. The connecting cables for the stations and
CO lines exit through the outlet in the bottom of EKSU and can be connected to the MDF or to a user
installed termination point. The EKSU is intended to be directly connected to the right side of
BKSU/SBKSU.

2.4.3 PSU (Power Supply Unit)

A Power Supply Unit, PSU, is required in the Key Service Units. The PSU converts commercial AC
power (110 –127 / 220 - 240 VAC @ 50-60 Hz) to DC voltages, regulates the voltages, and provides the
appropriate DC voltages to the back plane for distribution to other system components. Three DC outputs
are provided : ±5 VDC, +28 VDC. LEDs in the PSU front panel indicate valid outputs as well as the
presence of AC input power.
The PSU includes circuitry to float charge externally connected 24 volt batteries and control operation of
the battery back-up circuits. And the PSU will provide system operating voltages from the batteries if
commercial AC power fails. In addition, battery back-up control circuitry is incorporated in the PSU to
disconnect the batteries prior to a deep discharge or over-charged.
