PITCH ENGAGEMENT

TAS
KNOTS
ESP pitch engagement thresholds are configured for each airframe type. Thresholds
are established for both nose-up and nose-down attitudes. Most aircraft are configured
such that the torque applied by ESP increases to its maximum value when pitch attitude
has exceeded the configured nose-up or nose-down pitch limits by 5º. The opposing
force increases or decreases depending on the pitch angle and the direction of pitch
H
travel. This force is intended to encourage movement in the pitch axis in the direction

of the normal pitch attitude range for the aircraft. As the pitch attitude moves back
toward the normal envelope the ESP force ramps down to zero and disengages when
pitch is 5º less than the configured nose-up and nose-down pitch limits.
ESP will disengage if the aircraft exceeds the ESP engagement limits of 50 degrees
nose-up or nose-down.
There are no indications marking the pitch ESP
these nose-up/nose-down conditions.
