Replacing a Drive Drawer in a 60-Drive Tray

This procedure describes how to replace a drive drawer in the 60-drive tray. This kit instruction applies to
the following 60-drive trays:
E2660 controller-drive tray
E5460 controller-drive tray
E5560 controller-drive tray
DE6600 drive tray
You need these items for this procedure:
Antistatic protection
A flashlight (or equivalent)
A replacement drive drawer
NOTE
Drives do not come installed in the replacement drive drawer.
ATTENTION Possible loss of data access – Magnetic fields can destroy all data on the drive and

cause irreparable damage to the drive circuitry. To avoid loss of data access and
damage to the drives, always keep drives away from magnetic devices.

    Removing the Drive Drawer In this procedure, you disconnect the drive drawer cables from the rear of the drive tray, and you remove the drive drawer from the front of the drive tray. NOTE The power canister and the fan canister are two separate canisters. Put on antistatic protection.
  • Page 4 Use the fan canister handle to pull the right fan canister out of the drive tray. Figure 3 shows the area with the fan canister removed. Figure 3 Rear View of the Drive Tray Shown with the Right Fan Canister Removed 1.
  • Page 5 Disconnect the right cable chain mounting bracket from the midplane. Insert your finger into the orange circle (Figure 4), and pull the mounting bracket completely out of the drive tray. If necessary, use a flashlight to see the orange circle.   • Page 6 Reinstall the right fan canister. Remove the left fan canister by pressing on the tab holding the fan canister handle in place, and then pulling the handle toward you. Use the handle to pull the left fan canister out of the drive tray. Disconnect the left cable chain mounting bracket from the midplane.
  • Page 7 Remove all of the drives from the drive drawer. To remove a drive: Raise the drive handle to the vertical position (Figure Figure 7 Raised Drive Handle Lift the drive from the drive drawer using the handle, and put the drive on a flat, static-free surface.
  • Page 8 Installing the Drive Drawer ATTENTION Risk of equipment damage – Damage occurs if the lock-out tumbler is in the middle of the drawer guide. At the front of the drive tray, install the new drive drawer into the slot, making sure the lock-out tumbler is located on the top of the drawer guide.
  • Page 9 Pull the levers on the side of the drive drawer until the drive drawer stops. IMPORTANT You must add the drives to the same location in the drive drawer that they were in before the drive drawer was removed. Install all of the drives into the drive drawer. To install a drive: Raise the handle on the drive to the vertical position.
  • Page 10 Push the drive drawer all the way back into the drive tray, closing the levers on each side of the drive drawer. ATTENTION Risk of equipment malfunction – Make sure that you push both levers to each side so that the drive drawer is completely closed. The drive drawer must be completely closed to allow proper airflow and prevent overheating.
