Remove port plug screw inside base as shown. - Page 8 8.2 Then remove both inner and outer port plug halves. Keep the O-ring. Remove retaining nut, washer and O-ring from external adapter. 8.3 Compare this o-ring to the O-ring supplied with the SC external adapter. Note: Do not use the thinner O-ring! If necessary reuse the port plug O-ring. 8.4 Install the lightly lubricated O-ring onto external adapter. Note: Follow health, safety and environmental information, refer to product label or Material Safety Data Sheet for Silicone Lubricant. 8.5 Make sure port is clear of dirt. 8.6 Install SC external adapter’s washer and nut inside closure to retain the external adapter. Install retaining nut with the grooves facing out. Note: The installation tool mates with these grooves. 8.7 Using the installation tool and can wrench, tighten retaining nut to 20 in.-lbs. ± 5 in.-lbs. 9.0 3M SC External Adapter Port Expander Kit Installation for ™ Ports 6 and 7 9.1 SC external adapter can be added to ports 6 and 7 by using a port expander kit. Install per instructions supplied with the kit. Note: Ports 6 and 7 can be used as branch ports for cables up to 0.48” (12 mm) in diameter. Use 3M 12 mm ™ External Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) Kits to add cables to these ports. 10.0 SC Pigtail Installation and Splicing 10.1 Clean SC pigtail connector ends per company procedure. 10.2 Install SC pigtails into SC external adapters by first removing caps on both the pigtails and adapter. 78-8135-6695-3-C... -

10.3 Note the location of the key on the SC connector and adapter. Mate the SC with key feature facing the rear of the closure. 11.0 Cable Splicing 11.1 Determine type of splice insert needed. 3 mm Discrete Fusion Tray 2521-F ™ diameter fusion sleeves (3M Fusion Sleeves 2170) ™ are recommended. Smaller diameter sleeves may require the use of RTV to aid in retention. Mass Fusion 2521-FL and 3M Fibrlok Splices ™ ™ ™ 11.2 Install splice insert into splice tray by slipping tabs under metal retainers as shown. 11.3 Attach splice log decal to cover. Tabs on tray nest between tabs in storage tray. 11.5 If needed tray can be held in storage tray by using a tie wrap as shown. - Page 12 11.8 Route fiber into tray to determine the amount of buffer tube to remove. Remove buffer tube and clean fiber as required. 11.9 Cut a 1” (25 mm) long section of the rubber gripper supplied with the splice tray kit and use to secure buffer tubes or ribbon fiber (up to six) to tray. 11.10 Group up to four pigtails per rubber gripper to be spliced and route and install in tray. 11.11 Splicing can be done with the splice tray mounted inside the storage tray (recommended for ribbon splicing) or can be removed. 78-8135-6695-3-C...

Ribbon 11.12 Mount ribbon fanout on backside of the splice tray and secure with cable tie. Plug SC connector end into HFOC adaptors as shown. 11.13 Recommend ribbon splicing be done with the splice tray mounted inside the storage tray. 11.14 Replace cover and secure tray(s) by reattaching retaining strap. 12.0 Closure Sealing 12.1 Ensure both the dome seal area and base O-ring is free of dirt or any damage. If needed clean area and apply a light film of supplied silicone lubricant. Failure to maintain a clean seal area may lead to leakage.
