1. OPERATING YOUR OPTECH BASIC (ref. fig. 1)
1.a) After removing the protective packaging, insert the mains plug into a suitable supply
socket, checking that the voltage matches that indicated on the identification tag
situated at the rear of the stand (4).
1.b) Turn on using the power on/off switch (12).
1.c) Place the specimen slide on the stage (7), securing it using the spring slide holders (5).
1.d) Select the 4x objective (16), by rotating the nosepiece (15) until this objective locks
into its sprung slot
1.e) Using the coarse/fine focussing control knob (11) raise or lower the stage (7) until
the specimen comes into fine focus.
1.f) Search for the specific area to be observed, by gently moving the specimen slide
with your fingers.
1.g) If higher magnification is required, rotate the nosepiece (15) selecting the required
objective and refocussing, as necessary, using the coarse/fine control knob (11).
1.h) Search for the best balance between resolution, luminosity, contrast and depth of
field by rotating the disk condenser located under the stage (7).
2. CARE AND MAINTENANCE
2.1 Cleaning.
ATTENTION: always unplug the microscope before cleaning.
•
To remove any dust on the lenses, use a soft bristle brush or lens cleaning tissue.
•
To remove fingerprints or greasy marks from the lenses, use lens cleaning tissue or
a soft cloth soaked in a solvent such as xylene, benzene or ethyl alcohol.
•
To clean the external, painted surfaces of the microscope, use a gentle detergent
and a soft cloth.
•
We recommend that you always keep the microscope protected from dust after
use, a dust cover is provided for this purpose.
•
Please do not use strong solvents to clean the external surfaces of the microscope;
they may damage the lacquer coating and plastic components.
