    Installation and Setup Power Cord To install the power cord • Insert the cord into the power connector on the rear of the machine. Secure the cord with the metal clip. Plug the three-prong end into power source. Do not turn on the machine until the front handlebars and display are installed.

    Handlebars and Display U CAUTION: To prevent any electrical damage to the handlebars, always turn off all power to the machine when connecting or disconnecting the handlebars. To install the handlebars 1. Ensure that the machine is unplugged from the electrical outlet. 2.

    Optional Accessory: Rear Handlebars, Display, and Laser Stylus To install the optional rear handlebars and display  IMPORTANT: Install the rear handlebars and display after the front handlebars and display have been installed. Check that the machine is unplugged from the electrical outlet. U CAUTION: All power to the machine must be turned off when installing the rear handlebars.
  • Page 17 The laser light (for use with paper pantographs) attaches to a mounting post with a clamp. The mounting post attaches to a threaded hole on the thread-path side of the Platinum Q|165. To install the optional laser stylus 1. Place the nut on the laser stylus post with the washer under it and thread the laser post into the threaded hole, near the rear wheel base.

    Laser Focus and Image Size Focus the laser by turning the threaded housing surrounding the lens clockwise or counterclockwise. The laser image can be adjusted to project a bigger or smaller dot, or focal size. The direction of rotation needed is determined by the distance of the laser from the pantograph surface. Experiment by rotating the threaded end to achieve your desired focal size.

    Optional Accessory: Ruler Base If you plan to use rulers and templates with the Platinum Q|165, you need to purchase the ruler base to give you a large, stable surface on which to rest the ruler or template. The ruler base, rulers, and templates are optional accessories.

    Using Your Machine Power Switch The power switch is at the rear of the machine. Turn it on by toggling the switch from the 0 position to the 1 position. Â IMPORTANT: If you will not be using the machine for more than a day, we recommend you turn off the machine and unplug the power cord from the power source.

    Bobbin and Bobbin Tension The Platinum Q|165 quilting machine uses M-class bobbins that are larger than sewing machine L-class bobbins. The larger bobbins hold more thread, enabling you to quilt for a longer time between bobbin changes. To wind the bobbin The Platinum Q|165 comes with a separate bobbin winder.
  • Page 24 To adjust the bobbin tension • Make the bobbin tension adjustment using the screw in the center of the tension spring. Turn clockwise to tighten and counterclockwise to loosen the bobbin tension. Make tiny adjustments to the bobbin tension and test again.

    Top Thread Tension One of the joys of quilting with the Platinum Q|165 is its ability to handle many different types of thread. You can quilt with almost any high-quality thread as long as you first adjust the bobbin tension and then adjust the top tension to suit the thread you’ve chosen.

    Quilting With the Platinum Q|165 Preparing to Quilt 1. Make sure your machine has been cleaned, oiled, has a new needle, and that the tracks on the frame are free from threads or other debris. If the machine isn’t already plugged in, plug it in now. 2.

While firmly holding the tail of the needle thread, press the needle up/down button twice, causing the needle to go down through the quilt sandwich and then back to the up position.

    Using the Touch-Screen Display The Plati num Q|165 has a touch-screen display on the front handlebars. Use the display to access the quilti ng functi ons of the Plati num Q|165, such as to alternate between sti tch-regulated and non-sti tch regulated operati on, to control setti ngs for how you prefer your machine to operate, and to use tools such as counti ng sti tches on a quilt or logging how much ti me it took to fi nish your quilt.

Touch the Home icon whenever you need to return to the Main screen. Touch the Tools icon to open the Tools.     Sti tching Modes The Plati num Q|165 enables you to choose between two modes of sti tch regulati on (Cruise and Precision) or to choose manual sti tching. Manual Sti tching Mode When using the manual sti tching mode, the length of the sti tch is determined by how quickly or slowly you move the machine around the quilt, in combinati on with the number of sti tches per minute (up to 1800) you have selected.

    Alarms The Alarms screen has two alarms: the overspeed alarm and the quilti ng alarm. • Touch the Tools icon in the toolbar. Then touch the Alarms butt on to open the Alarms screen. The overspeed alarm alerts you if you are moving the machine faster than 100% of the motor capacity.
  • Page 42 To set the quilti ng alarm Aft er you enable the quilti ng alarm, the ti me begins to count down. This alarm measures elapsed ti me, not machine quilti ng ti me. The example below shows 57 minutes and 23 seconds are remaining before the alarm will sound.

    Quilt Timer and Sti tch Counter The Timers screen enables you to track the amount of ti me you work on a quilt and to track the number of sti tches on a quilt. • Touch the Tools icon in the toolbar. Then touch the Timers butt on. Press the Home butt on to return to the Main screen.

    Updati ng Machine Soft ware From ti me to ti me the Husqvarna Viking® brand releases soft ware updates for the Plati num Q|165 quilt machine. This update feature enables you to take advantage of the latest soft ware capabiliti es added to machines.

    Machine Maintenance Clean and Oil Your Platinum Q|165 The only place where you need to regularly oil your machine is the bobbin hook assembly. Failure to keep the hook assembly lubricated can cause severe damage to the machine. We recommend that you oil the hook assembly with each bobbin change and before use if you haven’t used the machine for a few days.

    In addition to the ongoing cleaning and oiling maintenance, you should have your machine serviced by an authorized Husqvarna Viking® service technician every 12 to 24 months, depending on use. They will take care of oiling and greasing internal parts and ensure the machine is in tip-top working order.

    Troubleshooting You can correct many problems on your own. If you need additional help, contact your local, authorized Platinum Q|165 retailer. First check the following: 1. The AC power cord is properly connected and the power switch is turned on. 2.

When you stand directly in front of the needle (facing the bobbin case side of the machine), you will see the entire needle eye directly facing you.
