  • Page 9 INTRODUCTION The Explorer XP Series of Matrix Switchers offer a unique blend of features, performance and value not found in other products. The Explorers are available in Composite Video, S-Video,Component Video and RGBHV and are available with and without stereo balanced audio. Matrix sizes currently include 8 x 8, 12 x 8 and 16 x 8 and 16 x 16.
  • Page 10 Serial Control In addition to the Web Server, the Explorers include an RS- 232 port for integration with a control system or for use with the included Windows based Remote Application. All switching and set-up functions are available through the serial port for access by a control system or through the included application.

  • Page 13 OPERATION System Control: The matrix switcher can be controlled in three ways, directly from the front panel, serial commands via the built in RS-232 port and though the optional web server card. The front panel is the most direct method and should be used for initial setup. The RS-232 port may be connected to a control system like AMX or Crestron, or be connecter to a PC running the windows program provide with the unit.
  • Page 14 Preset Switching Mode: In this mode the user can store and recall frequently used configurations for easy recall with a single button. The memory stores all input / output connection as well as the current audio level for each output. Input level trims are not to be stored or recalled by any preset operations. To select a Preset configuration the user will press the Preset button on the front panel.
  • Page 15 MATRIX LCD READOUT MENU TREE Output Audio Level: The output audio level control has the range of +5 to -45 dB. When the minimum volume is reached the output will be muted, thus providing the best possible isolation. To adjust the output level use the up/down buttons untill the desired output is on the LCD is indicated.

I / O Group: Each input and output can be placed into one of five groups (NO GROUP, GROUP 1 through 4). These groups are used to classify the inputs and outputs. Once an output is placed in a group it will only connect to a like inputs or the unit will not let different group interconnections.
  • Page 17 will look for sync on the first vertical sync connector (GENLOCK) for up to 22ms. If no sync is detected after 22 ms, the unit will "crash" switch. In the Reference IN 1= YES mode, on composite, s-video, and component units, the unit will monitor the GENLOCK input connector for up to 22 ms subsequent to a switch command.

  • Page 25 INSTALLATION The Matrix rack unit should be mounted in a rack where an AC power outlet is nearby. It is a direct AC plug in unit via the supplied EIA power cord. The front and back of the unit should be positioned so that both the installer and operator can conveniently access the front and back for wiring and adjustments.

    FSR XP EXPLORER CONTROLLER REV 2.39 Operating Instructions MAKING CONNECTIONS: To make a connection you can simply drag the desired input to the output or vice versa, but you should know that the default operation of the Matrix switcher is audio follows video. Therefore, if you only drag an input to an output you’re going to establish an audio and video connection.

  • Page 33 PRESET EDITOR The preset editor is used to store and recall routing configurations for later use. The editor will store your input/output connections as well as the current audio level for each output. The editor will not store audio input trim levels, groups, delay, or protection information.     SWITCH MODE: The switch mode enables the unit to provide glitch free switching when a genlock signal is available. You can change this from the “Setup Options” menu by clicking on the button. Under “Switch Mode” check “Reference IN 1.” PROTECT OUTPUT: The output protect feature of the Matrix protects the connections of protected outputs from being changed.
  • Page 38 LOADING CONFIGURATIONS: To load a configuration, click on the icon. From here you can select wish configuration file you wish to load. The controller will not load connections that violate groups or protected outputs. The following error is received if certain connections cannot be made: SAVING CONFIGURATIONS: To save a configuration, click on the icon.
