        If your Brocade 6542 16-Gbps FC Switch Module has a Brocade ISL Trunking license, external ports can form trunking groups of Inter-Switch Links (ISLs) between adjacent switches. ISL trunking allows up to eight ports between a pair of switches to be combined to form a single, logical ISL with an aggregate speed of up to 128 Gbps for optimal bandwidth utilization and load balancing.

    Nonport-side view     The nonport side of the Brocade 6542 Gen-5 16-Gbps FC switch module is not externally visible and it is internally plugged into the Inspur Shangri-la Blade Server chassis backplane.   The nonport side of the switch module is seated in the chassis. The switch module seats correctly when the insertion arm is closed.

          SFP+ optical transceivers     The Brocade 6542 16-Gbps FC Switch Module is designed to work with SFP+ optical transceivers. The switch module ships with two 16-Gbps Brocade-branded SFP+ transceivers by default.       NOTE You can also install 8-Gbps SFP transceivers in the switch module. All SFP transceivers must be Brocade-branded.

    Installing multiple switch modules   The Inspur Shangri-la Blade Server chassis supports up to four Brocade 6542 16-Gbps FC Switch Modules. The first switch module that you install must be assigned a unique Ethernet IP address during configuration. After the default Ethernet IP address on the first switch module has been changed, you can install additional switch modules in the Inspur Shangri-la Blade Server chassis.
