    Chapter 4: Operation 4. Operation 4.1 Using the Attached HDD Now you are ready to use the attached hard drive as an external USB 3.0 storage device. (A brand new hard drive must be partitioned and formatted first. You can use Windows Disk Management utility in Windows XP or other disk management software to perform disk-related tasks.
