Final Radio Setup
Adjust the squelch so that the APRS side of the radio is quiet when there is no
APRS signal present.
Press the TNC button until APRS12 is displayed at the top left of the screen.
Press KEY, if necessary, then BCON to display BCON at the top right of the
display
If the radio is receiving GPS inputs, GPS will be flashing at the top extreme right
of the display
The Kenwood Radio is now interfaced with the Avmap and operating in APRS mode.
If your Avmap and D710 are working properly together, press KEY, if necessary, then
press POS. Your GPS position data is displayed on the screen. Press ESC then press
LIST and you should see a list of the APRS stations last received by the D710. In
addition, as the radio provides position information to the Avmap, stations will be plotted
on the screen. Depending upon the location of plotted stations, you may need to expand
the scale of the map, or translate the map to a different location in order to see them.
The Avmap will detect whether a station is moving based on the data received from that
station. If the G4T computes that a station is moving, it will be plotted as a red triangle
with a call sign label. Stationary stations are plotted as a blue circle with a call sign label.
If the Kenwood output format is selected on the D710, the G5 will display standard
APRS icons. In this case, the moving station information on the map is lost. Selecting an
APRS icon and viewing the full information page will display its speed, course and
altitude. If you prefer to view the moving vs. stationary information on the map, you can
