5. Method of operation

Bessey cone heaters work by means of a heating element which in turn heats the aluminium
cone from the inside. Once this cone is hot, heat is directly transferred to the work piece
through a combination of conduction and radiant heat.

6. The thermostat

Some cone heater models are equipped with a thermostatic probe that automatically
shuts of the heater. If provided, the thermostat probe is permanently attached to the
heater.

The thermostat control is set to a fixed temperature. It will switch off the heater at
workpiece temperature of 110°C (230°F) and will switch on the heater again at workpiece
temperatures of 95°C (203°F) and below.
Make sure that the thermostat and the workpiece are properly clean.
Always place the thermostat probe as close as possible to the bore, which is clean and
free of grease.
Do not use the thermostat probe at temperatures of 130°C (265°F) and above. The probe
will get damaged. Do not put the thermostat directly on the cone of the heater.
Some bearings or workpieces may be too small for use with the thermostat. In those
cases use an external thermometer or phase change marker to monitor the
temperature.
Do not leave unattended!
Note: Cone heaters provided with a thermostat probe will operate
without the thermostat being put on the workpiece. Simply leave the
probe on bench top beside the heater.

 Wear protective gloves
 When in operation: keep a min. Distance of 8"/200mm between
heater and any vertical surface
Hazardous voltage
 Risk of electric shock: plug into grounded outlets only
Do not immerse in water
Read and save the user manual
Use heat-resistant gloves.
