2. Introduction

2.1 Application

Bessey cone heaters are intended for heating bearings, gears, etc... The heat expansion of
the metallic parts enables easy and precise mounting. Provided they are assessed
professionally, they can also be used to heat bushings, couplings and other small round
metal objects requiring a shrink fit.
The Bessey cone heater is not meant for continuous use.
CAUTION REQUIRED:
Bearings should not be heated to more than 120ºC / 250°F
Precision bearings should not be heated to more than 70ºC / 150°F. Higher temperatures
can affect the metallurgic structure, causing instability and breakdown
Do not use the heater for bearings or workpieces that are outside the scope of the
minimum or maximum dimensions as indicated in the technical data (chapter 9).

2.2 Application areas

Only use in an industrial environment, in the following conditions:
an ambient temperature from 0 to 40ºC / 32° - 104°F)
an atmospheric humidity from 5 to 90%, non-condensing

2.3 Principles of operation

The Bessey cone heater is a device that heats workpieces by means of heat transfer of the
cone to the workpiece.

3. Installation

Remove the packaging and place the cone heater on a stable and level surface. Do not
put on a surface which may burn.
Bessey cone heaters come with a pair of heat-resistant gloves (suitable up to 150°C /
300°F).
Some models are also provided with a fixed connected thermostat.
Connect the heater to:
voltage
-
frequency : 50 – 60Hz
-
power
-
Connect to a power supply network fused with a minimum of 10A and a maximum of 15A.
A Bessey cone heater is a class I device. Therefore, always use a grounded socket
outlet.
Ensure that the power supply cable cannot come into contact with the cone or the
bearing to be heated. Insert the plug into a socket outlet with grounded connection.
Switch on the device by means of the main switch. The machine starts heating the cone.
Caution!: The cone becomes very hot now! Make sure the cone is not touched without
protective clothing. Without protected clothing keep a least 200mm / 8" distance from
heater surfaces.
