3-7 Replacing ignition coil

1. Remove starter assembly.
2. Unhook ring (A) with screwdriver (B) or equiva-
lent and open cap cover (C).
3. Disconnect spark plug cap from spark plug.
4. Loosen two bolts (D) and remove ignition switch
terminal (E), ignition coil (F), taking care not to lose
collars.
5. Disconnect ignition switch terminal (G) from igni-
tion coil (F).
6. Remove spark plug cap, spark plug cap coil
from high tension lead. (Refer to "3-6 Replacing
spark plug cap and coil").
7. Install spark plug cap and spark plug cap coil to
new ignition coil (F).
8. Apply a drop of thread locking sealant (Loc-
tite#222 or ThreeBond #1344J or equivalent) to
tapped hole (H) of cylinder.
9. Set collars (J) as shown.
10. Loosely install new ignition coil (F) and ignition
switch terminal (E) with bolts (D), through collars
(J). Set pole shoe air gaps (Refer to "3-8 Setting
pole shoe air gaps"). Tighten two bolts (D).
11. Connect ignition switch terminal (G) to ignition
coil terminal (f1).
12. Pass switch lead (k1) (for terminal (E))through
notch (L), then pass switch lead (k2) (for terminal
G
(G)) over the lead (k1).
13. Set switch lead (k1) and (k2) between engine
cover and ignition coil (F). Reassemble all re-
moved parts.
