Installing your Operating Highway Lights
P
ower your Highway Lights with a Lionel Lockon or a separate power supply. These connec-
tions are discussed below.
Once the lamps are wired, secure them to the layout by inserting two screws into the holes in
the base. Vary the voltage to control the lamps. Increase the track/accessory voltage to make
the lamps shine brighter; decrease track/accessory voltage to dim the lamps. Keep in mind
that the bulbs will last longer at lower voltages.
The ends of the wires must be stripped back 1/4" to 3/8". Use a pair of wire

strippers or a sharp knife to strip the wires. Only an adult should perform this
task! Always use care when stripping wires.
Lionel Lockon (available separately, part no. 6-62900)
T
o power the street lamps through a Lionel
Lockon, attach the Lockon to the track. Slide
the bottom edge of the outside rail into the metal
lip on the Lockon, then press the clip at the end
of the Lockon over the bottom edge of the inside
rail. The Lockon is securely in place.
To connect the wires, press down on the top of
the terminal clip so that a metal loop is formed.
Slide the bare end of the wire into the exposed
loop. Release pressure on the terminal clip,
allowing the crimped metal to pinch the end of
the wire in the metal loop. Give a little tug on
the wire to check if the hold is secure.
