Server mode with static IP address and VPN access Requirements The UniMod LTE can be used in LTE (Long Term Evolution / 4G: fourth generation) network with an arbitrary number of providers. It requires how- ever the infrastructure for operating mobile. An existing LTE infrastructure with corresponding frequency ranges is one of the basic requirements.
UniMod LTE Safety Precautions for the User The UniMod LTE is an electronic device and must not be used for other purposes! Personnel The owner of the UniMod LTE is responsible that all persons engaged on work with the device: •...
UniMod LTE Power Supply Unit The UniMod LTE is equipped with a built-in, low-loss switched power sup- ply, which enables it to operate on a wide-range AC or DC supply voltage. 85VAC to 265VAC (50/60Hz) or 60VDC to 375VDC use an external protection fuse, e.g.
Communication is possible with many standard protocols, like DLMS, IEC1107 / IEC62056-21, IEC60870, M-Bus, Modbus, SCTM, LSV1 (trans- parent reading). The UniMod LTE has an internal (on-board) RS485 (2 wires) interface; Using the UniModSet program the user can determine the functionality of the RS485 interface (2-wires or deactivated).

UniMod LTE In the UniMod LTE modem an additional slot is available for another inter- face module. For this slot the following module types are available (installa- tion: see page 28): 20mA (CS, current loop) active (for 4 devices max.) or passive;...
(LOCK) until it clicks into place and the lid is locked. The SIM-Card is now ready to use. 4) After that connect the antenna to the UniMod LTE using the SMA plug. At last (important!) connect it to the supplying power.
UniMod LTE Display A series of LEDs indicate the current operating status of the modem and give information about the data transfer: UniMod LTE Description - LED is permanently off: power down mode (or the Telit module is defec- tive)
UniMod LTE Behaviour of the LEDs during the switch-on process: After switching on, all LEDs light up for a few seconds, after which the GSM-LED flashes SIM error: no SIM-Card inserted or a faulty SIM-Card: all four field strengths LEDs flash several times ...
Windows driver: Name: VCP Drivers for Virtual COM Port Manufacturer: FTDI Chip Internet (download): www.ftdichip.com A serial COM interface is emulated which can be used to communicate with the UniMod LTE using a query or parameterization program.

Serial Port (COM…). This COM can then be used in UniModSet. Now you have to select the new COM interface in the parameterization software UniModSet: After programming switch off the UniMod LTE, remove the parameteriza- tion adapter and insert the interface module carefully again (only permit- ted in de-energized condition).

Then connect the 25 pole plug (RS232) to the PC port. At last (important!) connect it to the supplying power. The UniMod LTE can now be programmed with the software UniModSet. After programming switch off the UniMod LTE, remove the parameteriza- tion adapter and insert the interface module carefully again...

Insert the Micro-SIM-Card Establish connection to the PC (e.g. using the parameterization adapter) Switch on UniMod LTE and wait some seconds: till the modem logins in the 2G or 3G or 4G radio network Start the UniModSet software ...
In the most cases a switch of the UniMod LTE data format from "7E1" to "8N1" is able to bring fast and easy help. Using this configuration data retrieval from most meters is possible in the format "7E1"...
UniMod LTE Additional Functions With the program UniModSet a UniMod LTE can be parameterized locally or remotely (Remote Control). Temporary Baud Rate Switching The baud rate of the electrical interface can be switched while a request is running, without the necessity to disconnect the connection. This allows to read meter with different baud rates (2400, 9600) and/or data formats (7E1, 8N1 or 8E1).
UniMod LTE Cyclic Reset Optionally the time-controlled modem-reset can be activated. With this turned on the modem (Telit-Module) is regularly deactivated by the internal firmware. After the reset it logs on to the radio network again. Activating is recommended when the field strength of the used radio network is very low.
Thus it is possible to pre-program the modem for dif- ferent SIM-Cards: When the field “PLMN-Code” is empty, the UniMod LTE uses the first avail- able mobile network. After clicking the “More PLMNs” button, further mobile networks can be en- tered: After clicking the question mark a help window will be activated.
UniMod LTE Client Mode (IPT-Bridge) Client mode: the UniMod LTE logs on to the IPT-Bridge (server). Registra- tion at the IPT-Bridge (DIN 43863-4) takes place in two steps. First, the settings for the radio network provider are specified: Note: Depending on the SIM-Card used, the information "User name" and "Pass- word"...
(external applications) establish a TCP connection to the modem (via VPN access to the radio network provider). Settings for server mode (the UniMod LTE works as server for the external applications) with network TCP-Port on which the modem will listen in this...
Note: use only for testing, deactivate please this function after the tests! TLS Encryption TLS encryption is only possible in the client mode with IPT-Bridge. UniMod LTE supports TLS encryption version 1.2. By clicking the corresponding buttons, the valid certificates and the private client key can be copied to the modem.
UniMod LTE 8.10 Firmware Update (Option) Optionally, a firmware update can be performed. The update can be per- formed locally (e.g. via RS232/RS485) or via radio (LTE/UMTS/GPRS). Local: When doing a firmware update via the local interface it is advisable to re- move or disable the SIM-Card in the modem.
Page 25
UniMod LTE After clicking button “Firmware Update” the current parameter setting is read from remote modem. Then the file containing the desired firmware can be selected (e.g. from hard disk). The next step is a confirmation prompt. After OK the firmware will be up- dated.
