    1. GET TO KNOW YOUR DEVICE The Remington iLIGHT Essential is a light-based device for permanent hair reduction designed for home use. It is a powerful electrical device and should be used with special attention to safety. Be sure to read all warnings, contraindications and safety precautions before use, and follow them strictly.

    1.3 Indications for use This device is an over-the-counter device intended to remove unwanted hair and effect long-term, or permanent hair reduction. Permanent hair reduction is defined as a long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing when measured at 6, 9 and 12 months after the completion of a treatment regimen.

    3. CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS This device is not designed for everyone. Refer to section "1.3 Indications for use". Hair removal by lasers or intense pulsed light sources can cause increased hair growth in some individuals. The highest risk groups for this response are females of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian heritage when used on the face and neck.
  • Page 8 Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing. Do not treat on areas where you may want hair to grow. The results are permanent. Do not treat the same area of skin more than once per hair removal session. Stop use immediately if your skin is very red, or if your skin blisters or burns.

    4. DO NOT USE YOUR DEVICE IF: The adapter, attachments or accessories for this device are not recommended by Spectrum Brands. The device has a damaged cord or adapter. Keep the power cord away from heated surfaces. You see or smell smoke when it is in use. The skin tone tester, treatment window, or device casing is cracked or coming apart.

    Do not use if you have a disease related to photosensitivity, such as porphyria, polymorphic light eruption, solar urticaria, lupus, etc. Do not use if you have a history of skin cancer or areas of potential skin malignancies. Do not use if you have received radiation therapy or chemotherapy treatments within the past 3 months, or have areas of potential skin malignancies.

    7. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS If you follow the instructions fully and pay attention to all warnings and contraindications, complications and side effects are uncommon. However every cosmetic procedure, including those designed for home use, involves some degree of risk. Therefore, it is important that you understand and accept the risks and complications that may occur with pulsed light hair removal systems designed for home use.
  • Page 12 Blisters or burns Cool the affected area and apply anti-burn cream. Wait until the area has healed completely before another treatment, and use a lower energy level. If the skin does not return to normal within 3 days, contact Customer Service. Pigment changes The device targets the hair shaft, in particular the pigmented cells in the hair follicle and the hair follicle itself.

    8. LONG-TERM HAIR REMOVAL The efficiency of hair removal varies from person to person according to body area, hair color, and how the device is used. A typical full hair growth cycle may take 18-24 months. During this time, multiple treatment sessions are required to achieve permanent hair removal.
  • Page 14 8.2 Energy levels The energy level determines the intensity of the light pulse delivered to your skin. As the energy level increases, so do hair removal results, as well as the risk of possible side effects and complications. The device has 5 levels of energy from 1 (the lowest) to 5 (the highest), represented by 5 energy level indicator lights.
  • Page 15 Gliding is the best technique for working at lower energy levels. Press the treatment window firmly against your skin and slowly glide over your skin (either across or down as shown in the image). Make sure that the treatment window is always touching your skin. At lower energy levels, the device takes only 1-1.5 seconds to recharge between pulses.
  • Page 16 8.5 What to expect when treating with your device For many people, using the device may be their first experience with a light-based device. During a treatment session it is normal to experience or feel: Noise: The cooling fan makes noise similar to a hair dryer. This is normal.

    9. GET STARTED To use your device follow these steps: Remove the device and other components from box. Plug the adapter cord into the device socket and plug the adapter into an electrical outlet. All energy level indicator lights will turn on, and then go off.
  • Page 18 NOTES: The device will only emit repeated pulses when it is in firm contact with your skin, and you keep moving it across your skin. Use a lower energy level if you experience any discomfort.   • Page 19 The device will not operate if your skin tone is too dark for safe use. If you are pulsing, remove the device from your skin. The device will immediately recharge for the next pulse. After a few seconds (depending on the energy level) the ready light will turn on again, and will pulse when pressed against the skin.

    10. AFTER TREATMENT When you have finished your treatment session: Press and hold the control button to turn the device off. Remember the last energy level setting you used, because it will not be restored when you turn the device on again. Remove the adapter from the electrical outlet.

    12. TROUBLESHOOTING Do not attempt to open or repair your device. You may expose yourself to dangerous electrical components or pulsed light energy and cause serious harm to yourself.
