Checking the Battery Electrolyte
Park your motorcycle on its centre stand on

a firm, level surface.
Remove the battery.

Check the electrolyte level must be

maintained between the UPPER and LOWER
LEVEL marks.
If the electrolyte level is low, remove the battery
(
P. 48) and filler caps. Carefully add distilled

water to UPPER LEVEL mark.
Filling the battery above the UPPER

LEVEL line may cause the electrolyte to
overflow, resulting in corrosion to engine
or frame parts. Immediately wash off any
spilled electrolyte.
After checking battery fluid level, or

adding distilled water, make sure
breather tube is connected to the battery
breather outlet. The battery breather
tube must be routed as shown on the
label.
Do not bend or twist the breather tube.

• Battery fluid is highly corrosive and can
damage metal or painted surface. Use care
when adding distilled water.
• A bent or kinked breather tube may
pressurize the battery and damage its case.

Cleaning the Battery Terminals
Remove the battery.

If the terminals are starting to corrode and

are coated with a white substance, wash
with warm water and wipe clean.
If the terminals are heavily corroded, clean

and polish the terminals with a wire brush or
sandpaper. Wear safety glasses.
