Warning: DO NOT touch the magnetic media. Doing so may
damage your disk and the information on it.
Floppy disks for the Atari PC are usually double-sided, meaning that
both sides of the magnetic media are certified as safe for storing
information. A double-sided 5114 -inch disk has a memory capacity of
360 kilobytes; a double-sided 3 V2-inch disk has a memory capacity
of 720 kilobytes.
You must format a new blank disk before you can use it. Formatting
prepares a disk to receive information by completely erasing the
disk, checking for damage on the magnetic media, and setting pat
terns (sectors and tracks) in place to hold the information you will
eventually write to the disk. ( For instructions on how to format, see
FORMAT in Chapter 3.)
To insert a 5114 -inch disk into the drive, first make sure the drive latch
is flipped up. Hold the disk label side up, with the write-protect notch
on the left. Gently slide the disk into the drive opening until it is com
pletely inside the drive. ( If the disk meets resistance, check to see
if another disk is already in the drive.) Flip the drive latch down to
lock the disk in place.
To remove the disk, flip the drive latch up and gently pull out the disk.
To insert a 3
/2-inch disk into its drive, hold the disk with the metal
1
sleeve towards the drive and the write-protect notch on the left.
Gently slide the disk into the drive until it clicks into position. T he disk
will be completely inside the drive when properly inserted.
To remove the disk, firmly press the eject button on the front of the
drive, then gently pull out the disk.
Warning: To avoid damaging your disks, make sure the drive's busy
light is off before you insert or remove a disk.
