Replacing the copper pads on the clamping heads
In axial current flow, the workpiece makes contact
with the copper pads of the clamping heads on the
sleeves. Where the contacts are excessively worn,
sufficient contact cannot be achieved; this results in
high contact resistance at the contact points and burn
marks developing on the workpiece.
You can replace the copper pads on the clamping
heads when they are worn out. Depending on the type
of magnetisation and the size and shape of your work-
pieces, different contact surfaces may be required.
Clamping head with round copper pad
1. Clamping head (contact plate)
2. Round copper pad
3. Groove for levering out the copper pad
4. Rectangular copper pad (if available)
5. Clamps
6. Clamping screws
Procedure
1. Remove the workpiece from the machine.
2. Turn the machine off and secure it against being
inadvertently turned on.
3. Round copper pads:
Carefully lever the copper pad out of the contact
plate on the clamping head. To do this, insert a flat-
head screwdriver into the groove at the bottom
edge and press down lightly.
Rectangular copper pads (if any):
Loosen the two screws on the left and right side
of the contact plate, and remove the copper pad
and clamping parts.
4. Clean the contact points with steel wool to a shiny
finish.
5. Apply a thin coat of contact grease to the contact
points.
6. Round copper pads:
Insert a new copper pad into the contact plate and
press down firmly. The copper pad must sit secure-
ly in the contact plate.
Rectangular copper pads (if any):
Place copper pads around the front and sides of
the contact plate and replace the two clamping
parts. Screw the two bolts on the left and right
sides, through the clamping parts, into the contact
plate, and clamp tight the copper pads.
If necessary, you can also remove the contact plate to
insert the copper pads:
1. undo the three clamping screws [3] on the contact
plate and remove it.
2. Clean the contact plate with medium-fine steel
wool to a shiny finish and lightly coat with Tungrease
VC563 contact grease.
3. Re-attach the contact plate to the sleeve using the
three clamping screws.

2. Contact plate
3. Clamping screws
4. Groove for levering out the copper pad
