Truncation rules
Truncation rules
These are the truncation rules for mnemonics used in headers and alpha
arguments:
The mnemonic is the first four characters of the keyword.
If
the fourth character is a vowel,
then
the mnemonic is the first three characters of the keyword.
This rule is not applied if the length of the keyword is exactly four characters.
Some examples of how the truncation rules are applied to various commands
are shown in the following table.
