Hydraulic Systems

There are two separate hydraulic systems on the 747C. One provides power to the drive wheels.
The other provides the lifting of the Scoop assembly and nose gear.
Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure can penetrate skin. Hydraulic
fluid may cause infection in a minor cut or opening in the skin. If
exposed to hydraulic fluid, see a doctor at once.
Before applying pressure to hydraulic system, make sure all connections
are tight and all hoses and lines are in good condition. To find a leak
under pressure, use a piece of cardboard or wood — never use your
hands. Relieve all pressure in the system before disconnecting or
working on hydraulic lines.
Check the fluid level in hydraulic system after every 100 hours of operation or monthly, whichever
occurs first. Check more often if system appears to be leaking or otherwise malfunctioning. Fluid level
should be approximately 1" below top of the reservoir.
Refer to Figure 12.
In the drive system reservoir (1) use only 20W50 Motor Oil
In the scoop lift system reservoir (2) use only Dextron III Automatic Transmission Fluid.
