Auxiliary Power Unit
The Super and RAF variants of the VC10 were equipped with an auxiliary power unit (APU) in the tail cone. The
APU supplies ground electrical power and compressed air for engine starting. The panel for controlling the APU
is fitted to the rear bulkhead, requiring a modification to its layout. The APU controls are located in the lower left
portion of the panel.
In-flight refuelling
The RAF variants of the VC10 were fitted with a modified rear bulkhead panel to accommodate the controls
for operating the centreline hose drum unit (HDU) and wing-mounted refuelling pods. The primary controls are
divided into four sub-panels:
1. Port wing-mounted refuelling pod
2. Starboard wing-mounted refuelling pod
3. Centreline hose drum unit (HDU)
4. Fuel dispensing and miscellaneous controls
