Starting up your SONUS
To turn on your instrument press and hold the Power On/Off key
for approximately
one second. (Your meter will display the start-up screen and initialise any saved settings.)
To Calibrate using a Castle Calibrator (GA601 or GA607) attach the calibrator to the
microphone, press the MENU key so that CAL <OK is on the screen. Press OK to show the
calibration level (default 94dB). Wait for 5 seconds then press OK again and the
instrument will calibrate to the level of the calibrator, displaying COMPLETE when finished.
Changing the Range
If the display indicates OVERLOAD (range too low) or **UR** (range too high), the range
should be changed. Press the range key
and use    arrow keys to select the desired
range (the current selection is denoted by *), then press OK so the screen shows DONE.
This setting will be saved when the instrument is powered off.

Taking a Measurement

To start measuring, press the STOP/RECORD Key
so the display briefly shows REC
MODE. You can review the parameters using    arrow keys during recording
When ready to stop, press
again, so the display shows STOP intermittently. The
measurements are now frozen so use    arrow keys to scroll through parameters.
If the STOP/RECORD Key
is pressed again, these measurement will be cleared and a
new measuring session will begin. The measurements are not saved on this instrument
Calculating Exposure
The SONUS I (not SONUS B) is capable of calculating the daily exposure based on a given
shift duration
To set this time, press MENU and use    arrow keys until the display shows SD <OK.
Press OK so the display shows HOURS 08 and use    arrow keys to change to the
desired number. Press OK so the display shows MINS 00 and use    arrow keys to
change to the desired number and Press OK to finish. The display will briefly show DONE.
To view the daily exposure calculation, Press C to get to the measurement screen and use
the    arrow keys to find the parameter PLe. This is the projected LEP'd and shows the
exposure level in decibels for the given shift duration
