Installing the XR-3100
Before the XR-3100 is ready for installation in the field, it must be programmed in the Meter Shop.
Energized meters, meter sockets and distribution lines present the risk of
electrical shock. All work on this equipment should be performed by qualified
metering specialists or industrial electricians. Personnel working with this

equipment should follow all utility company established operation and safety
procedures.
P R O G R A M M I N G I N S T R U C T I O N S F O R T H E M E T E R S H O P
Ensure that you have the latest version of Tantalus DT-150 software installed on your PC and that
you have your utility's Business Identifier as supplied by Tantalus.
1.
Remove the XR-3100 from the packaging and place it on a flat, stable surface. Retain the
packaging so you can re-package the device for the field once you have programmed it.

Unlock the XR-3100 and slide the front cover upwards until you can lift it free.

Attach a power cord to the terminal blocks.

Attach the XR programming cable between your computer running the DT-150 software
and the XR-3100 serial programming port, as shown in Figure 1. Ensure that the toggle
switch on the programming cable is set to LAN as shown in Figure 3.

Do NOT remove the inner plastic cover of the XR-3100. Tampering with the
inner workings of this device may results in damage to the product or injury to
the installer and void the product warranty.
Ensure that both battery compartments are empty.
