BATTERYCHARGING
■ Battery caution (continued)
CAUTION:Shorterbatterylifecouldoccurifthebatteryis
leftfullycharged,completelydischarged,orinanexcessive
temperatureenvironment(above+50°C(+122°F))for
anextendedperiodoftime.Ifthebatterypackmustbe
leftunusedforalongtime,itmustbedetachedfromthe
transceiverafterdischarging.Youmayusethebatterypack
untiltheremainingcapacityisabouthalf,thenkeepitsafely
inacoolanddryplaceatthefollowingtemperaturerange:
–20°C ~ +50°C (–4°F ~ +122°F) (within a month)
–20°C ~ +40°C (–4°F ~ +104°F) (within three months)
–20°C ~ +20°C (–4°F ~ +68°F) (within a year)
BE SURE to replace the battery pack with a new one
approximatelyfiveyearsaftermanufacturing,evenifitstill
holds a charge. The inside battery material will become
weakafteraperiodoftime,evenwithlittleuse.The
estimatednumberoftimesyoucanchargethebatteryis
between300and500.Evenwhenthebatteryappearsto
befullycharged,theoperatingtimeofthetransceivermay
become short when:
• A pproximately5yearshavepassedsincethebatterywas
manufactured.
• The battery has been repeatedly charged.
■ Charging caution
R DANGER! NEVER charge the battery pack in areas with
extremelyhightemperatures,suchasnearfiresorstoves,
insideasun-heatedvehicle,orindirectsunlight.Insuch
environments,thesafety/protectioncircuitinthebatterywill
activate, causing the battery to stop charging.
R WARNING! NEVER charge the transceiver during a
lightningstorm.Itmayresultinanelectricshock,causea
fireordamagethetransceiver.Alwaysdisconnectthepower
adapterbeforeastorm.
R WARNING! NEVER charge or leave the battery in the
batterychargerbeyondthespecifiedtimeforcharging.Ifthe
batteryisnotcompletelychargedbythespecifiedtime,stop
chargingandremovethebatteryfromthebatterycharger.
Continuingtochargethebatterybeyondthespecifiedtime
limitmaycauseafire,overheating,orthebatterymay
rupture.
R WARNING! NEVER insert the transceiver (battery
attachedtothetransceiver)intothechargerifitiswetor
soiled. This could corrode the battery charger terminals or
damagethecharger.Thechargerisnotwaterproof.
CAUTION: NEVERchargethebatteryoutsideofthe
specifiedtemperaturerange:BC-214andBC-219N(+16˚C
~+40˚C(+60.8˚F~+104˚F)).Otherwise,thechargingtime
willbelonger,butthebatterywillnotreachafullcharge.
Whilecharging,atapointafterthetemperaturegoesoutof
thespecifiedrange,thechargingwillautomaticallystop.
