The followings situations are normal and are not signs that the oven is malfunctioning.
QUESTION / SITUATION
Control panel / The display is black / blank.

The display is fine but
START will not function
when pressed.
Electrical power supply is in-
terrupted during cooking.
Oven light is off during
PROOF.
Oven light is off when door
is opened.
When either dial is turned,
"DRAIN WATER" is displayed.
STOP/CLEAR pad cannot
be entered during draining.
After cooking or if water has been left in the steam gen-
erator for more than 15 hours, this message will be dis-
played. Remove the reservoir. Check that the base tray is
on the oven floor. Press START. If "NOW COOLING" is
displayed, see next section.
Wait until the water has cooled in the steam generator.
When "NOW COOLING" disappears, the water will be
drained automatically. It takes a maximum of 30 minutes
to cool and then drain after cooking.
When START is pressed, this message may appear.
Count down begins when the message disappears.
* Check that power plug is connected to a suitable wall
outlet. See page 4.
* Check that fuse or circuit breaker is functioning prop-
erly. If not, correct.
* Disconnect the oven from the power source, wait one
minute and then plug into the wall outlet. If the prob-
lem exists, consult a Sharp Authorized Servicer.
* Open the door and close. Is the oven light off? Press
START again.
* If the display says, "Wait until oven is cool.", be sure to
wait until it disappears and then press START.
The cooking program will be cancelled. Continue to cook
using the manual settings. Check food carefully as it cooks.
Normal operation to prevent bread dough from drying
on the surface.
Oven light lights for maximum 5 minutes when door is
opened.
Follow step-by-step instructions for draining the water
on page 13.
During draining, STOP/CLEAR pad is locked. Wait for
15 seconds and try again.
