INSERT/DELETE KEY
The INST/DEL finsert/delete) key has two rad
ically different, though complementary, func
tions. Those functions are, simply, positive and
negative—one lets you add new characters,
and one lets you erase existing characters.
DELETE
The INST/DEL key is—in its simplest, negative
form—like the reverse gear in a car. You can
be typing along, and then you realize that you
have to go backwards. But watch outl When
you use the INST/DEL key to go backward,
you wipe out everything you just did. You run
over it and erase it—just as you do with the
SPACE bar, but in the opposite direction.
For example, type your full name on the
screen now.
SCREEN 1
SCREEN 1
To see the effect of the DELETE function,
first type your name on the screen.
Then, tap the INST/DEL key three or four
times. Each time you press the INST/DEL key,
you erase one of the letters in your name.
SCREEN 2
Now hold the INST/DEL key down and go
into high-speed reverse. You have erased all of
the rest of the letters in a single step.
SCREEN 3
SCREEN 2
Pressing the INST/DEL key by itself erases
the character to the left of the cursor.
SCREEN 3
Hold down the INST/DEL key until all the
letters in your name are erased.
