    DC12 AUTOMOTIVE VIDEO RECORDER OVERVIEW The Uniden DC12 is a dual camera ultra-compact recorder with FHD 1920 x 1080 high resolution video that can be set up to continuously capture high quality video even in low light conditions. The built-in G-Sensor system triggers the camera to instantly begin recording if the vehicle is bumped or scraped. The DC12 front camera can even record outside the vehicle for the duration of the internal battery’s power. A second camera, installed above the rear windshield or license plate, displays video on the front camera screen in a picture-in-picture format. It connects to (and is powered by) the main unit via a miniUSB connector. If connected to the backup taillights, it displays in full screen with backup guidelines when the vehicle is in reverse.     Do not attempt to operate the camera while driving. If you need to access the DC12 to change settings, etc., pull off the road in a safe manner to do so. Some state laws prohibit drivers from mounting anything on the windshield, or restrict mounting to specific areas of the windshield.

    ATTACH THE DC12 FRONT CAMERA Be sure the bracket locking ring is set to unlock. Slide the DC12 onto the bracket hook on the bottom of the windshield mount until it locks into position. Turn the locking ring to lock. Make sure the bracket is locked to the windshield. To unmount the bracket, turn the locking ring to the unlock ( ) position and then lift the plastic flap on the base to release it from the windshield. POWER UP THE DC12 Only use the DC car adapter that comes with your device. Any other adapter might damage the device. Refer to your car’s owner’s manual to verify where the power outlets are on and around the dashboard.

    The backup camera displays in a “picture-in-picture” format when the front camera powers up. When the vehicle is in reverse, the back camera displays full screen, with guide lines for backup displayed. See page 24 for details. SETTING UP THE DC12 Before recording video or taking snapshots, set up how you want your DC12 to operate. The configuration menu, common to all three modes, lets you set the date and time stamp, turn audio recording on or off, set the image resolution, etc. CONFIGURATION MENU In any mode, press MENU to access the configuration menu. You cannot access the menus if the DC12 is recording. Press REC to stop recording, then press MENU. Press ▲ or ▼ to scroll through the various options and then press REC to select that option.

    To remove a character (inserting a blank): Press REC repeatedly to cycle through the characters to reach the character to remove. Select the blank character and press REC. You will now have a blank character in that spot. Press MODE to return to the main menu when the entry is complete. ADAS SYSTEM ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistant System) is comprised of two systems - LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System) and FCWS (Forward Collision Warning System. • LDWS - Lane Departure Warning System. Warns driver when vehicle is drifting into another lane. Uses lane markings. • FCWS - Front Collision Warning System. Warns driver of potential crash ahead in time for driver to take evasive action. DC12 OPERATING MODES The DC12 operates in three modes: Video, Snapshot, and Playback. Quickly press MODE to cycle through the modes. Stop when you are on the mode you want. Video Mode Pres REC to start and stop recording. Recorded video is saved on the microSD card. See page 22 for details. Snapshot Mode The DC12 lets you take still images (snapshots) of live video that is not recording. You cannot take a snapshot...
  • Page 21 of live video while it is recording. You also cannot take a snapshot of recorded video playing back. To take a snapshot: Verify that a valid microSD card is inserted in the microSD slot. Quickly press MODE to select Snapshot mode. Press REC. The camera takes a snapshot of live video. These snapshots are saved on the microSD card. Playback Mode View your recorded files and snapshots through playback mode. 1. From Playback mode, press ▲ or ▼ to scroll through the recorded files one at a time. A counter displays on the top bar (for example, 01/05). If the file displays a play icon ( ► ), it is a video file. Press REC for playback. Press REC again to pause playback and MODE to return to the list of recorded files. If the file does not display a play icon ( ► ), it is a snapshot. Press MODE to return to Live video. During recorded video playback, ▼ jumps forward 2-3 seconds and ▼ jumps backwards 2-3 seconds.

    USING THE DC12 RECORD VIDEO When connected to a car charger, the camera automatically goes into Video mode and starts recording when you start the car if Automatic Record is enabled. A counter displays to indicate recording is in progress. If the camera is not recording, press REC to start recording. A counter displays. To stop recording, press REC and the counter disappears, indicating that the recording has stopped. If the car charger is unplugged while the camera is recording, the camera will power down in 10 seconds. If the car charger is unplugged while the camera is NOT recording, the camera will power down according to the Auto Shutdown setting (see page 16).If OFF is selected, the camera remains on until the internal battery runs out. SAVE CURRENT RECORDING (LOCK FILE) You can save the file currently recording so it will not be overwritten if the microSD gets full. While recording, press Mode. The Locked File icon ( ) displays, indicating that the recording has been locked and will not be overwritten by new video clips. Press MODE again to unlock the file.     PLAY BACK RECORDED FILES (PLAYBACK MODE) When you access Playback mode, the screen displays an image from the last video recorded/snapshot taken. A file counter also displays.     Press ▼ to scroll forward (▲ to scroll backward) until the file you want to manage displays on the screen; press MENU to delete that file. A confirmation screen displays. Press ▼or▲ to confirm deletion or cancel and REC to process that selection. Repeat for other files. When you have finished, press MODE to exit Playback mode. USE THE BACKUP CAMERA With the backup camera properly installed, live video from it displays in a “picture in picture” format when the vehicle is turned on. As soon as the car is put in reverse, the backup camera live video displays in full screen, flipped. Guidelines display to assist the driver in backing up properly and safely.

    Once the vehicle is taken out of reverse, the screen returns to “picture in picture” mode, with the image flipped back to normal. VIEW FILES ON A PC When you connect the DC12 to the PC (either through the supplied USB cable or by inserting the SD card into the PC), the PC views the DC12 as a removeable drive. This connection allows you to view your recorded files on the PC through the Uniden Player. Download the Uniden Player Go to www.unidensupport.com and select Automotive Product. Select DC12 under Dashcam by model. Follow the instructions to download the Uniden Player for DC12. Connect microSD Card to PC If you are connecting the DC12 to the PC via USB cable: Connect the DC12 to the PC using the supplied USB cable. A list of options displays.

    Select Open the USB Storage Device and press REC. The icon displays, indicating that connection between the camera and the PC is established. Go to the next section, View Files on Player. If you are inserting the microSD card into the PC: Remove the microSD card from the camera and insert it into a microSD card to USB converter (if your PC does NOT have an SD card slot) or into a microSD to SD card converter (if your PC DOES have an SD card slot). Insert the converter into the PC. An AutoPlay message box displays. Close the message box. Go to the next section, View Files on Player. View Files on Player The illustration on page 27 corresponds to the following steps. The highlighted folder/file names show how the steps progress through finding and viewing a recorded file on the microSD card. Open the player.
