By briefly pressing the DECALC/HARDNESS but-
ton  the display changes to flashing briefly once,
twice or three times, each time followed by a pause
(......, ......, ......).
• The settings and display are shown in table 1.
• Once you have set the desired level of water
hardness, hold down the DECALC/HARDNESS
button  again for longer than two seconds.
The red LED will go off and your settings are saved.

• Hold down the DECALC/HARDNESS button  and
by briefly pressing the M button  set the desired
level of water hardness. The hardness level will be
shown in the display.
• Once you have set the desired level of hardness let
go of the DECALC/HARDNESS button . Your
settings are now saved.
Please note
• Water hardness cannot be programmed while brewing.
• The last water hardness level chosen remains even
after removing the power cable.

4. Making coffee

For aromatic coffee flavour and the best fit for your
filter bag in the filter holder, we recommend using
filter bag 1x4

4.1. Brewing coffee

• Ensure that the appliance is connected to a power
source.
• Remove the detachable water tank by holding the
recessed grip and pulling straight up. 
• Remove the water tank lid and fill with the desired
amount of fresh water from the tap. Using the water
level indicator on the tank you can choose the
correct number of cups.
Small cup symbol = approx. 85ml coffee per cup,
large cup symbol = approx. 125 ml coffee per cup. 
• Close the tank by replacing the lid and insert the
tank back in the appliance. Please ensure that you
replace the tank upright in the appliance. The guide
rails on the appliance (left of the tank) will help you
with this. 
• Swivel the filter to the right and remove it from
the holder . You can now conveniently rest the
filter on your kitchen worktop.
• Fold a Melitta
®
and place in the filter holder. Press the filter bag into
the filter holder by hand, to ensure the best fit. 
• Put the ground coffee into the filter bag. The amount
depends on your personal taste. We recommend
using 6 g of ground coffee per large cup.
• Put the filter back into its holder. For this hang first
the eyelet of the filter on the top of the swivel arm
and afterwards press the round base into the clip. An
audible click tells you it is inserted properly. 
• Swivel the filter back into the appliance and place the
therm jug with closed lid  in the appliance. 
• Turn the appliance on . The green LED lights up
and brewing begins.
• To fully develop the flavour of your coffee even when
preparing less than 6 cups, the Melitta
Therm models are fitted with the Aroma Control
feature as standard. So even when preparing small

quantities of coffee you get the best aromatic coffee
experience. When making 2-5 cups press the START
button  for longer than two seconds. The green
LED flashes and brewing begins.
• The appliance turns of automatically short after
brewing. This avoids the unnecessary use of electric-
ity and saves energy. You can of course turn the
appliance off manually at any time.
• The drip stop prevents your coffee from dripping,
when you remove the pot from the appliance. 
• With the help of the detachable filter you can
dispose of the coffee filter bag simply and easily. 
4.2. Timer feature (ONLY Melitta
AromaElegance
The appliance is fitted with a timer. This allows you to
set a time at which brewing will automatically begin.
• Prepare the appliance as described in point 4.1. brewing
coffee, but without pressing the START button.
• To set the desired start time hold down the TIMER
button  and press the H and M buttons  repeatedly
to set the desired start time. This goes faster if you
hold down the H and M buttons. The first time you
programme it, the display will show 00:00.
• After letting go of the TIMER button, the current
time will show. The chosen start time is saved until
you set a different time or remove the appliance
from the power source.
• By briefly pressing the TIMER button again, the timer
feature is activated for the next brewing process.
To show this, the white LED  lights up and the
programmed start time shows briefly in the display.
• If you wish to activate the Aroma Control for the
programmed brewing, then press the START button
 for longer than two seconds. Now as well as the
white LED, a green LED  will light up.
• The appliance automatically starts to make the
coffee at the time you have set.
• By pressing the TIMER button again, the timer
feature can be deactivated at any time.
The white LED goes off. 
• If you want to make coffee before the programmed
start time then press the START button . The
timer feature will then be deactivated.
5. Using the insulated pot
• The brewed coffee flows through the central valve in
the insulated lid of the pot.
• To pour coffee press down on the sealing lever. 
• Remove the lid simply by pressing the seals on the
side while lifting the lid up. 

6. Cleaning and maintenance

External cleaning
• The housing can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
• The jug lid, the filter insert and the swivel filter can
be washed in the dishwasher.
Descaling
Based on the water hardness level you have set
(see point 3) the descaling programme should be run
promptly after the DECALC/HARDNESS button 
®
lights up. The descaling programme is only available
when the descaling display lights up.
