ture sender
Cylinder head gasket defective
Cylinder head or block cracked
Cylinder liner seals leaking
Pitted cylinder liners
Leaking oil cooler
Defective oil cooler O-rings
EGR cooler system leaking
Faulty coolant pump seal; weep hole
plugged; coolant leaking through bearing
Too low viscosity crankcase oil
Crankcase oil level too high
External oil leak(s)
Restricted crankcase vent tube
Excessive oil pressure
Oil control rings not seated
Oil control rings worn or broken
Scored cylinder liners or pistons
Worn valve guides or stems
Defective turbocharger
Front and/or rear crankshaft oil seal faulty
Piston ring gaps not staggered
Insufficient piston ring tension
Piston rings sticking in ring grooves
Piston ring grooves excessively worn
Loose or corroded connections
Sulfated or worn-out batteries
Stretched belt or defective belt tensioner
Faulty battery connection

Solution
Test and replace thermostats as
required
Check gauge, sender, and connec-
tions
Contact an IASD
Drain crankcase and refill with cor-
rect viscosity oil
Drain oil until oil level is correct
Determine source of oil leak(s) and
repair as required
Clean vent tube, verify that crank-
case oil level is not too high
Contact an IASD
Clean and tighten connections
Replace batteries
Adjust belt tension or replace belts
Clean and tighten connections
Replace batteries
Replace fuse
