HAPTER N T R O D U C T I O N This chapter contains a brief description of the physical attributes of the DS2000-IFR product and describes the LEDs, pinouts, and specifications covering the device. 1 . 1 V E R V I E W The DS2000-IFR provides connectivity to Asynchronous and Ethernet traffic for on site use and acts as a WAN access device.
Introduction HAPTER Overview The DS2000-IFR serves basically two functions. The first function is to provide connectivity to Ethernet and Serial devices and the second is to provide access for these Ethernet and Serial devices over a WAN (Wide Area Network) to controlling and monitoring functions. The DS2000-IFR can also be configured to provide on-site connectivity for Ethernet and Serial devices to local Ethernet networks.

The installer should make themselves familiar with the requirements listed in this chapter prior to beginning the install to ensure no unnecessary delays occur.

The unit comes prepared to be installed in a standard 19" rack either front, rear or center rails. The mounting brackets may also be removed and rotated to support other configurations.
Installation HAPTER Connecting Facility Power 3 . 4 C O N N E C T I N G F A C I L I T Y P O W E R The DS2000-IFR comes in either high or low voltage models. The unit does not have a power on/off switch and is active when the power is connected.

Installation HAPTER Connecting Network Cables CAUTION: Avoid touching the fiber optic cable tips and interiors of the optical ports. If the connector or port is not being used, dust caps should be installed. Contamination could degrade the performance of the optical connection. Dymec recommends that fiber optic connectors be cleaned after each use and optical ports be cleaned only if contamination or degradation to performance is detected.

HAPTER A I N T E N A N C E There are no corrective repairs or preventative maintenance actions for the DS2000-IFR. The unit is designed to be replaced as a unit and there are no user repairable components in this device. There are also no requirements for servicing of this device.
Maintenance HAPTER Packing The DS2000-IFR For Shipment 4 . 1 . 2 D i s c o n n e c t N e t w o r k C a b l e s The network connections to the DS2000-IFR may include Serial, Ethernet, and WAN cables. The order for removal is not important but it is important to note that there are active devices connected to each end of the cable.
