6.4.

Operating Mode Monitoring

To ensure that the beacon is operating in a correct mode, visual and audio monitoring information is
provided as follows:
LED Red: Self Test Failure.
LED Green: Self Test OK, Transmission OK (in Active mode)
LED Yellow: flashing during self test sequence and the first two minutes of activation se-
quence to indicate that the system is running.
Buzzer (audio tone): for Beacon Tx monitoring and Self Test.

Controls and indicators description and theory of operation

The MR109 personal locator beacon is designed to operate outdoors in case of an emergency. The
device is manually activated.
The beacon is controlled by a three position sliding activation button: OFF Position (central position),
Test position (left position) and ON position (right position). A spring will automatically return the slid-
ing button from the TEST position to the OFF position.
A 3 colour LED and buzzer indicate the PLB operational status:
LED:
Green flashes indicate that SELF TEST IS PASSED, or that the 406.028 MHz and 121.5 MHz
are being transmitted.
Yellow flashes indicate that the SELF TEST mode is running, or indicate the status of GPS fix
encoding in the digital message.
Red long flashes indicate system FAIL (in SELF TEST MODE).
Buzzer:
Beeps indicate SELF TEST OK (long beep) or NOT OK (short beeps during 5 seconds).
Beeps alternatively with the LED indicate beacon transmission, beeps shortly 3 times, every
time the GPS obtains a fix.
