Feeder Protection and Control
REF615
Product version: 2.0

1. Description

REF615, member of ABB's 615 product
series, is a dedicated feeder protection IED
designed for the protection, measurement
and supervision of utility substations and
industrial power systems. Re-engineered from
the ground up, the IED has been guided by
the IEC 61850 standard for communication
and interoperability of substation automation
devices.
The IED provides main protection for over-
head lines and cable feeders in distribution
networks. The IED is also used as back-up
protection in applications, where an inde-
pendent and redundant protection system is
required.
Depending on the preconfiguration made,
the IED is adapted for the protection of
overhead line and cable feeders in isolated

neutral, resistance earthed, compensated and
solidly earthed networks. Once the standard
configuration IED has been given the appli-
cation-specific settings, it can directly be put
into service.
The 615 series IEDs support a range of com-
munication protocols including IEC 61850
with GOOSE messaging, IEC 60870-5-103,
Modbus
