After draining thoroughly, tighten
the drain screws securely. Be sure
to drain thoroughly as the gasoline

Motor Storage

1.
Tilt the outboard motor, remove
the plug caps, pull the recoil starter
several times and completely drain
off the cooling water.
If the outboard motor is put
on its side without
completely draining off the
cooling water immediately
after stopping it, water may
enter the engine from the
exhaust port. Be sure,
therefore, to drain off the
cooling water before putting
the outboard motor on its
side.
When pulling the starter grip,
be careful not to touch the
spark plug wire.
2.
Change the engine oil.
3.
Remove the spark plug, and pour
about a tablespoon of clean engine
oil into the cylinder. Crank the
engine several revolutions to
distribute the oil, then reinstall the
spark plug.
4.
Slowly pull the starter grip until
resistance is felt. At this point, the
piston is coming up on its
compression stroke and both the
intake and exhaust valves are close.
Storing the engine in this position
will help to protect it from internal
corrosion.
5.
Store the outboard motor in a clean
and dry area.
Before storing, clean, flush and
lubricate the outboard motor as
described on pages
55
,
Transport/Storage Position of the
