the wind direction registers due north, I replaced the wind direction and speed unit and it still indicates north even though the wind vane moves feely

The Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 wind direction still registers as due north (N/359 or 360 degrees) even after replacing the wind direction and speed unit because the station may not be receiving a usable or normal signal from the equipment. This issue can be caused by a worn potentiometer in the wind vane, which leads to sections of little or no connection. Additionally, if the console does not receive valid wind data, it may default to displaying a north reading. The problem persisted even after changing the ISS, console, and connecting wire, suggesting that multiple wind instrumentation assemblies might have similar faults.
