    Attaching the Strap Attach the strap clips to the camera and then attach the strap. Attach a protective cover. Place a protective cover over the eye- let as shown, with the black side of the cover toward the camera. Protective cover Open a strap clip.
  • Page 45 Attaching the Strap Place the strap clip on an eyelet. Hook the strap eyelet in the clip opening. Remove the tool, using the other hand to keep the clip in place. Keep the tool in a safe place, as you will need it to open the strap clips when removing the strap.

    Lenses and Other Optional Accessories The camera can be used with lenses and accessories for the FUJIFILM X-mount. Before attaching or removing (exchanging) lenses, attach the lens caps and check that the lenses are free of dust and other foreign matter.

    Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Before use, charge the battery in the supplied battery charger. An NP-W126S rechargeable battery is supplied with the camera. Charging takes about 150 minutes. Place the battery in the charger. Place the battery in the supplied bat- tery charger as shown.

  • Page 49 Charging the Battery Charging via Computer The battery also charges if the camera is connected to a computer. Turn the camera off , insert the battery, and connect a USB cable as shown, making sure the connectors are fully inserted. The charging time is not aff ected by the type of cable used.

    Inserting the Battery After charging the battery, insert the battery in the camera as described below. Open the battery-chamber cover. Slide the battery-chamber latch as shown and open the battery-cham- ber cover. Do not open the battery-chamber cover when the camera is on. Fail- ure to observe this precaution could damage image fi les or memory cards.

Do not attempt to force the cov- er shut. Removing the Battery Before removing the battery, turn the camera off and open the battery-cham- ber cover.

    Inserting Memory Cards Pictures are stored on memory cards (sold separately). The camera can be used with two cards, one in each of its two slots. Open the memory card slot cover. Unlatch and open the cover. Do not open the memory card-slot cover when the camera is on. Failure to observe this precaution could damage image fi les or memory cards.

Press and release the card to eject it part way (to prevent the card falling from the slot, press the center of the card and release it slowly, without removing your fi nger from the card).

    Inserting Memory Cards Compatible Memory Cards FUJIFILM and SanDisk SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards have been approved for use in the camera; UHS-II cards can be used in both slots, while cards with a UHS speed class of 3 or bet- ter are recommended for movies.

    Taking Photographs (Mode P) This section describes how to take pictures using program AE (mode P). See pages 56–63 for information on S, A, and M modes. Adjust settings for program AE. Shutter speed ( 56): Select A (auto). Sensitivity ( 77): Select A (auto).

To prevent pictures that are out of focus or too dark (underexposed), keep your fi ngers and other objects away from the lens and AF-assist illuminator.

    P, S, A, and M Modes P, S, A, and M modes give you varying degrees of control over shutter speed and aperture. Mode P: Program AE Let the camera choose shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure. Other values that produce the same exposure can be selected with program shift.
