NOTE 1: SAE 30 or 10W-30 is recommended when most of
, the driving is at high speeds and / or at tempera-
tures above 90 ° F.
NOTE 2: SAE 5W-300ils may be used during periods when
temperatures of 32° and below are to be expected.
The use of high quality oil of correct viscosity is your
best assurance of continued reliability and performance
from your engine. It is recommended that you use an oil

according to the label on the can, is (1' intended
for Service " MS" and (2)" passes car makers' tests or
meets General Motors Standard GM· 4745-M. Oils

To flush the crankcase, drain al'!d refill with SAE

oil;' run engine at fast idle until hot, then drain
immediately and refill with recommended grade of oiL
CHECKING OIL LEVEL
Regardless of the change interval being followed
check the oil level (with engine hot' on the dipstick regu-

larly. Keep oil level between the FULL and ADD marks,
by adding oil when level is at or below ADD mark. It is
not necessary to keep the level at the FULL mark. Capac-
ity of the various engines will be found on Page 38 .

Your Chevy II engine cooling system is equipped
with a 180 0 thermostat and is designed to operate · o n
permanent type (ethylene glycol) anti-freeze. Non-
Permanent type coolants are not recommended since
they are not satisfactory for year around use and may
not effectively inhibit corrosion of the engine cooling
