4-Valve Cylinder Head
3. Finish installing the valve guides
(Figure 6-63, (1)) into the cylinder head to the
proper height (Figure 6-63, (3)) using the valve
guide installation tool (Figure 6-63, (2)). See
Intake / Exhaust Valve and Guide on page 6-7.

IMPORTANT
Always install new valve stem seals. The
exhaust valve seals can be identified by
having yellow paint. Ensure they are
installed in the correct locations.
1. Oil the lip of the valve stem seal
(Figure 6-64, (2)). Using the valve stem seal
installation tool (Figure 6-64, (1)), install a new
valve stem seal on each of the valve guides
(Figure 6-64, (3)).

2. Measure the distance (Figure 6-65, (1)) from
the cylinder head to the valve stem seal to
ensure proper clearance (Figure 6-65, (2))
between the guide and seal. See
Intake / Exhaust Valve and Guide on page 6-7.

3. Place the cylinder head assembly on its
exhaust port side.
4. Place all the valves (Figure 6-66, (5)) in their
proper location in the cylinder head.

5. Place the cylinder head on the workbench with
the combustion side down. Install the valve
spring (Figure 6-66, (3)) and spring retainer
(Figure 6-66, (2)).
6. Using the valve spring compressor tool,
compress the valve spring.
