7. CHANGING PARTS

The SK-50 provides 16 Parts. Parts can be likened to the parts that make up an orchestra, since
in both cases a different sound is required to be produced by each. On the SK-50 an ensemble
effect can be obtained by having a number of Parts play together. But since the SK-50's keyboard
can only play one Part at a time, you will need to use a computer or sequencer to
simultaneously play a number of Parts.
However, even while playing only on the SK-50's keyboard, being able to switch among Parts is
a feature that can be used conveniently, as explained below.
• You could decide beforehand on all the Tones that you will need for a series of songs to be
played live. These Tones can then be assigned to Parts (in same numerical order) so that they
will be selected in order in the course of your songs. Then, during the performance, you
simply need to change to the next Part to instantaneously obtain the needed Tone. This way
you don't need to be bothered with pressing a lot of buttons (such as BANK, NUMBER, and
VARIATION) to arrive at the sound you need.
• When switching Tones using the BANK and NUMBER buttons, you obtain the original Tone,
while any previous Variation selections are discarded. If you make changes in the sound
using Parts, however, this doesn't happen. For example, if you have a Variation selected for
Part 1, that same Variation will be ready and playable whenever you choose Part 1, even after
switching to other Parts.
Checking the Selected Part
To have the number of the currently selected Part (the Part that will be sounded by the SK-
