aquarium, the plastic one outside. Remove the nut from the tank connector and
the rubber washer and insert the rest of the fitting as far as it will go through the
larger of the two holes in the weir. Replace the rubber washer and the nut and
screw down firmly until hand-tight. Use the included screw tool from PVC pipe to
do so.
Some aquarists may want to apply silicon sealant to this pipework. This is not
necessary provided the fitting is inserted correctly and Anthias owners should be
aware that this will make subsequent removal of this fitting difficult.
Fitting the return pipe (25 mm) tank connector. Locate the 25 mm tank connector
with the attached length of 25 mm pipe and hosetail. At the hosetail end, remove
the hosetail and nut taking care that any sealing rings are retained. Remove the
nut from the tank connector and the plastic seal. From inside the weir insert the
male end of the tank connector through the smaller of the two holes present in
the base. Make sure the rubber seal is present on the inside of the fitting. From
below the aquarium replace the plastic washer and then the nut and hand-tighten.
Replace the hosetail making sure that its rubber washer is correctly aligned.
Locate the 40 mm strainer pipe. This has a rounded cap at one end and a number
of straight openings along its length. Push this into the weir end of the tank
connector.
Carefully introduce the AM Bactoballs into the weir chamber. When filled gently
push down on the uppermost balls to level them below the glass lip on the weir.
Fig. A: The correct set up of the trickle plates, bactoballs and 25 mm pipe
in the weir of the Anthias aquarium. When operating, ensure the blue
elbow is kept clean as this prevents back siphoning of aquarium water
that can occur during power cuts or when the Ocean Runner 3500
circulating pump is turned off.
Place the trickle plates onto the glass lip inside the top of the weir. Use the plate
with the central hole on the left hand side of the aquarium as this fits directly over
the 25 mm pipe previously installed. The plates should fit flush and level.
Locate the remaining rigid 25 mm pipework consisting of a 90 degree elbow with
anti-siphon blue elbow attached and 45 degree elbow joined with two lengths of
pipe. Insert the pipe coming through the trickle plate inside the 90 degree elbow
and point the pipe towards the left hand wall of the aquarium.
