Motor Driver IC Replacement for Socketed MCBs

Repair/Replacement Procedure
Note: To improve reliability, Vari-Lite has introduced main control boards (MCB) with the motor
drivers mounted directly on the board. Drivers cannot be replaced on these boards. For boards with
sockets, to remove a motor driver IC, you will need a Static-Dissipative PLCC Extractor tool. This tool
is available from Stanley Supply & Services (part number: 126-453).
Step 1. Disconnect luminaire AC input cable from power source.
CAUTION: Always use anti-static precautions when working with PCBs.

Step 2. Remove Main Control Board PCB following procedure on

replace with thermal pad (Vari-Lite part number: 10.9678.0885, Thermal Transfer Kit)
Step 4. Using C.K. PLCC extractor tool (see above), replace required stepper motor driver (loca-
tions: U27-U30, U32-U44).
Step 5. Reinstall Main Control Board PCB performing Steps 2-6 in reverse order from
